Welcome to IDCC 370 Web Design I Principles and Practices

Check this out! Check this out:

A revolutionary development in communication, the World Wide Web offers unprecedented access to mass audiences. This introductory course focuses on the principles and practices necessary to create effective pages for the Web. Students receive instruction in writing hypertext documents, designing Web pages, authoring well-formed HTML, and meeting a variety of technical challenges.

The course focuses on purpose, scope, and audience considerations in page design; writing informative and persuasive on-line documents; designing coherent, portable, navigable, and interactive pages; and employing the fundamental principles of color theory, typography, layout and graphic design for the Web. Combining lab, lecture, and discussion, students learn the best practices of electronic design to create their own interactive Web sites.

Be sure to check into the class Web site every day for announcements.

Preparing for the First Class

First class meeting everyone will be responsible for discussion with the class a part of the course information, syllabus and assignments. The various areas for presentation to your fellow students will be made during class.

Hi! I'm a little mouse pad. I am your friend. If not for this first meeting, then for the remainder of the semester, you should bring a mouse pad to class. Yes, a mouse pad.

The computer stations in SMI 110 do not have pads. The mouse track ball does not behave well at all on the desktop surface, and students in the past have gotten very frustrated because of that. A mouse pad will help somewhat. Try to get a fairly thick pad: the little thin ones are generally not any better than the desk surface.
