Dreamweaver in Studio 8 at Deep Student Discount, 1/22/08

It's here and ready for you to pick up. As a Bentley student, you can get your very own copy of Studio 8, a $999 value for $146 plus tax. Just proceed to the front desk of the Academic Technology Center in the Adamian Academic Center, Room 168. The office is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 to 4:30, but you might want to phone ahead to make sure that someone is there to help you (781/891-3421).

As there is a limited number of these packages available, I would highly recommend that you pick yours up as soon as possible.

Just tell Laura Ford or her assistant that you are there to pick up your copy of Studio 8. Be sure to provide your student ID card so the software can be charged to your account. That's all there is to it.

State and Country Drop-down Elements, 04/10/07

This handy little state drop-down element and this country drop-down element will save you a great deal of typing. (Warning: These links open in new browser windows.) After opening a linked file, just copy the markup to the clipboard, and in code view paste it in your document at the desired place. Or if you prefer, save the file to your Web folder, then open, and take it from there.

You are free to use these form elements in Dreamweaver, whenever you need to, especially in your third and final assignments.

IDCC 380 Sites Nicely Designed, 04/10/07

Take a look at some really appealing designs and course work that your classmates submitted for assignment one:

1. Siraj Bilimoria
2. Jason Feldman
3. Brian Gilbreath
4. Josh Mahoney
5. Kimberly O'Connor
6. Robyn Saidi
7. Jennifer Shabshelowitz
8. Laura Tabb

Here are the problem areas that were general:

1. SEO: poor page titles; no meta keywords or descriptions. Be sure to correct these on all pages (except the exercise pages).
2. On your dream site prototype and your IDCC 380 Web site, kill all self-referencing links. If your navigation setup causes you trouble in doing this, let me know.
3. Remember that you are creating a Web; you need to make sure that from any page in the Web your visitor can easily get back home (except the exercise pages; I give you a pass on those).
4. Many of you experienced wrapper problems. Be sure to correct these. Ask if you need some help with this.
5. Provide a signature and a text global navigation bar in the footer of your IDCC 380 site and prototype dream site pages. The footer minimally should include date, time, and contact information. You need not include the footer on exercise pages.
6. Avoid non-informative hyperlinks such as click here.
7. Watch your proofreading. Remember as well to use Shift/F7 in Dreamweaver to check your pages for spelling.

Exercise One on Menus, 02/01/07

I promised you in class today an easy way to get to the navigation menu model, which illustrates your first navigation exercise using CSS Tab Designer. Just use this model to refresh your memories about what I am functionally expecting in this assignment. Do not feel that you have to copy my menus or color scheme.

Remember to supply the greeked text and any images you may want in laying out your pages. At this point, do not worry about the jump menu. We can work on that using Dreamweaver in class on Tuesday, February 6. Come Tuesday with all six menu pages finished so you can demonstrate to the class your menu choices in a nice tight little web of possibilities.
